Hearing is Underway

The hearing has begun. The main hearing room, 411 South, is completely full, and there are now two overflow rooms where people can sit and listen to the testimony over the PA system. The overflow rooms are 425SW and 400SE.

If you are headed to the Capitol, please be sure to first go to 411 South to register your opposition to SJR 53 and AJR 67. There are testimony slips in the two hallways outside the hearing room.

Many people simply register their opposition to the measure, but others register that they also want to testify. As the hearing began, it was announced that there are already 300 people registered to testify. Testimony is being limited to three minutes per person.

The morning's press conference went very well. The lineup:

Rev. Curt Anderson - Christians for Equality in Wisconsin
Richard Taylor & Ray Vahey - Milwaukee couple together for 49 years (Richard is a WWII veteran)
Patrick Flaherty - Center Advocates
Janie Ocejo - Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence
Rev. David Dragseth - Lake Park Lutheran Church, Milwaukee
Bill Briggs & Al Poliarco with their three children - Madison couple

Hello Joshua,

I signed up to testify before I
realized that 300 others did as well. My views have been already well represented by the very thoughtful testimony given by opponents to the amendment. However, should we run out of speakers on our side I'll gladly run back over to the Capitol if it's announced on the blog that we need more representatation.

I did not realize there were two measures that needed my signature of opposition. I signed one of the forms for AJR67 but not for SJR53.. should I be worried that my voice won't be heard on it? Can I still register? (Cory Moll, Madison, WI)

Not to worry, Cory. Both measures are for the same thing-- one is just the name for the measure in the senate, the other in the assembly. Registering your opposition for either one will make your voice heard. Thanks for taking time out of your day to get over to the Capitol.
