Anti-Equality Groups Struggle in California

Great news from California. A group that was trying to put a constitutional ban on gay unions on the June 2006 ballot failed to gather enough signatures. (Unlike in Wisconsin, citizens can place measures directly on the ballot if they collect the required number of signatures.)

According to the Associated Press, ProtectMarriage.com has "bowed out of the fight for now, saying the timing and political climate are not right to get such a measure passed."

Another California group, VoteYesMarriage.com has been trying to qualify a different measure for the November 2006 state ballot, but they also seem to have a hard time drumming up support.

Could it be that voters are growing tired of these political games?
