A Big Thank You

We sent out this email last night to our supporters statewide. If you aren't getting our emails, you can sign up here.

Thank you to everyone who helped make yesterday a success. Nearly 700 people joined the legislative hearing at some point, in addition to countless others who listened to the proceedings online.

Many who testified against the ban on civil unions and marriage had to wait several hours before getting a chance to speak. And although it wasn't easy to sit through our opponents' testimony, we outlasted them! For the last two and a half hours of the hearing, the only people left to testify spoke against the amendment.

No, it's not likely we convinced committee members to reject the amendment. But we did an excellent job telling our stories to the media who, in turn, told some of those stories to voters across Wisconsin. Today, more people understand that the amendment is far reaching and will harm families in every part of the state.

Again and again throughout the day, our side was able to demonstrate that real people will be directly affected by this amendment, while the other side relied on fear, disinformation, and abstract threats.

We were fortunate to have allies on the Judiciary Committee who were willing to ask tough questions. Senators Tim Carpenter, Fred Risser, and Rep. Fred Kessler were especially vocal. Here's their contact information if you would like to thank them:

Sen. Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) - sen.carpenter@legis.state.wi.us

Sen. Fred Risser (D-Madison) - sen.risser@legis.state.wi.us

Rep. Fred Kessler (D-Milwaukee) - rep.kessler@legis.state.wi.us

We had hoped to send you news today about the Joint Judiciary Committee's official action on the amendment, but so far there is no word from the Capitol. Although the committee hasn't yet formally approved the amendment, we expect a vote in the full state Senate as soon as next Tuesday, Dec. 6th.

In the coming days, we will undoubtedly need to ask for your help again, but today we wanted to simply say thank you.
