On Civil Unions

In his opening remarks, Sen. Fitzgerald tried to refute the fact that the proposed amendment would ban civil unions and domestic partnerships. He said that in fact, it would open the door for future discussion of allowing them.

But Sen. Carpenter, who is on the floor now, just challenged him by quoting Julaine Appling of the Family Research Institute. She said that Sen. Fitzgerald "had the foresight to ban civil unions" in this amendment.

Carpenter introduced an amendment that would remove the second sentence from the current proposed amendment.
