U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore Working to Defeat the Ban

When she was in the state Senate in 2004, Gwen Moore spoke out strongly against the civil unions and marriage ban. After she delivered a rousing speech on the Senate floor, she came up to the Senate gallery to meet those of us who were there late at night, keeping vigil. When I stood up to shake her hand, she leaned in and hugged me instead. It felt completely genuine and surprisingly comforting.

Now she's Congresswoman Gwen Moore, and she's still speaking out against the amendment. Earlier this year, she went door to door with the Milwaukee No on the Amendment Coalition. She carried a small copy of the Constitution with her and asked voters to oppose the amendment. More recently, she submitted a powerful statement to the Joint Judiciary Committee hearing.
