Wisconsin's New Year's Resolution

John Nichols, associate editor of The Capital Times, writes that this will be the year for Wisconsin to make history by defeating the proposed ban on civil unions and marriage. He says, "We want Wisconsin to make the right kind of history in 2006 by becoming the first state in the nation to vote "no" on one of these hateful referendums."

Wisconsin institutions and individuals must speak up early and often in opposition to this foul proposal. Silence is not an option.

We are speaking up today, as the year begins, and we will continue to do so throughout the year.

We invite everyone who values Wisconsin's past and its potential to join us in speaking up - and in making the right kind of history in 2006.

Thanks, Ingrid, for posting this. Nichols is right about speaking out, and it's all the more reason to be disappointed that the UW System still remains institutionally silent on this issue. Mail the UW System president, Kevin Reilly (kreilly@uwsa.edu), and demand he take a pro-active stance on the amendment!
