National Church Opposes Ban

The Episcopal Church (USA) just concluded their 75th annual General Convention in Columbus, Ohio. At this national church meeting, amid all the press about the Episcopalians electing their first ever female Presiding Bishop and Primate, Katherine Jefferts Schori, another landmark endorsement was handed down by the national church to the campaign to defeat the ban on civil unions and marriage!

Yesterday, the House of Deputies concurred with a resolution from the House of Bishops that places the Episcopal Church (USA) in opposition to the state and federal bans. You can read the full resolution here. In 1994, the Episcopalians made a call for legislation to allow civil unions and domestic partnership benefits, and felt that the church must make a statement regarding this issue in light of all the bans proposed around the country.

This is an important endorsement of the Fair Wisconsin position. As you are well aware so many churches, synagogues, faith communities, and regional faith bodies have stood to oppose the ban. Now, a major national church is part of a “faith voice voting NO” in Wisconsin.

A prayer of thanks for good news and good friends!

“Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.”
