On Friday night, Fair Wisconsin was part of the opening ceremonies ot PrideFest.

One of our speakers was Ray Vahey (shown here with me). Last year, he and his partner of 49 years, Richard Taylor, came out publicly at PrideFest in part because the debate over the civil unions and marriage ban compelled them to speak out and get involved. This year, Richard couldn't make it to the event because he is in the hospital. But Ray told me the two of them wrote the speech together, and that before Ray left to come speak, Richard told him, "I'll be right there at your side."

James Pennington, the executive director of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center led the evening.

Next up, Ray Vahey.

Veronica Mosley, a sophomore at Alverno College who also works with Project Q in Milwaukee and is an active door canvasser, did an amazing job motivating the crowd.

Debbie Knepke talked about being a mother-- and a legal stranger-- to the two young children she and her partner Candace are raising.

Deon and Pabitra talked about Fair Wisconsin and how to get involved in defeating the ban.

And finally, the Reverand Jamie Washam of Underwood Memorial Baptist Church in Wauwatosa wrapped up the evening of "Voices for No" with an inspiring speech.
