Senator Feingold Speaking Out Against the Ban

We've been hearing and reading lately that wherever Senator Russ Feingold goes, he mentions the importance of fighting the civil unions and marriage ban in Wisconsin.

This article talks about Senator Feingold's remarks at a recent event in California where he first discussed the federal constitutional ban, then moved on to what's happening in Wisconsin:

The constitutional amendment, Feingold told the ANGLE audience, is “mean-spirited” and he promised that if enough Democrats are elected in November to take back Congress, “we can kill these constitutional amendments forever.”

Feingold viewed it as part of his job to kill such amendments, but said it wasn’t his role to get involved beyond that—until a measure was introduced “to despoil the constitution in my state.” In addition to his unapologetic support for full marriage equality, business leaders and even the department of tourism have come out against a proposed amendment to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions in Wisconsin. Now, he said, “Wisconsin might be the state that will stop this trend,” of state measures. “This is not just an issue of states’ rights. This is one of the great civil rights issues of our day.” He asked for help for Fair Wisconsin, the organization working to defeat the measure, noting that success there will have ripple effects through the nation.

As usual, Feingold takes the wimpy road. (See stance on Iraq).

Unmarried partners DO NOT deserve any special rights.

Let's stop the insanity - where will it all end?

It will end when...

State and Federal Legislatures passes bills that can help improve the state and country rather than create more dividing lines. And start understanding the word, "compromise". Stop the bickering and get something done.

When groups like Focus on the Family and Ms. Appling realizes that family values can be found in a home with two parents of the same sex and quality kids can come from that loving home. And they need to start focusing on more of the single mother with five kids from five different fathers. Gay parents are not the problem with families these days.

That is when it will end on some parts.

"Unmarried partners DO NOT deserve any special rights."

Let's let everyone marry then.

Since we all know that allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry does not equate to special rights, what "Voice of Reason" was really trying to say was "Special rights = I think gays are so disguisting that they're lucky just not to be thrown in jail...and anything more than that is special."

'to despoil the constitution in my state.' "

so well put!! as per usual, Senator Feingold has such a way with words.

I've been wondering how long it would take for him/the Progressive Patriots PAC to start advocating for Fair Wisconsin. I'm so happy to see this!!!!

Feingold has never been a person to go against his own feelings. He quickly denounced both the federal marriage amendment and this amendment in Wisconsin. I've sent him letters (as I'm sure many have) requesting that he do more to help fight this amendment. Well he certainly listens to his constituents! Everyone once in a while I feel like I'm actually being represented in my government. Thanks Russ!

Paul.
